LONDON EAR FESTIVAL – Kompositionswettbewerb 2016

Das vom 9. bis zum 13. März 2016 stattfindende LONDON EAR FESTIVAL schreibt einen Kompositionswettbewerb aus. KomponistInnen sind eingeladen, ihre Werke bis zum 10. Jänner 2016 einzureichen.

Submissions are invited in two categories:
Pieces for ensemble
Pieces for a solo instrument: flute or cello or piano

The performers will be:
Platypus Ensemble (Vienna)
Uroboros Ensemble (London)
Carin Levine: flute / alto flute
Rohan de Saram: cello
Mary Dullea: piano

Subject to the judges decision:

Each of the above five ensembles or soloists will perform one piece at London Ear 2016: March 9-13

Prizes for the five finalists will be awarded as follows:

1st Prize for the overall best piece (from either category)
£1000, Publication by Verlag Neue Musik, Berlin, Recording for download release on the Sargasso label

Two 2nd Prizes (one in each category)
£500 each

Two 3rd Prizes (for the remaining two works)
£250 each

Instrumentation details:
Ensemble pieces may be for any three or more of the instruments in one of the ensembles:
Platypus Ensemble: flute/alto flute; clarinet (Bb)/bass clarinet; violin; ‘cello; piano
Uroboros Ensemble: oboe/cor anglais; harp; violin; viola; ‘cello
Works for piano (solo or ensemble) should not be for ‘prepared’ piano.
However, pieces requiring touching the strings, or using a plectrum, e-bow, etc are acceptable.
Submitted works must not involve electronics.

The competition is in two stages. The members of the Jury will be:

Stage 1
Sam Hayden (Composer; Professor of composition Trinity Laban Conservatoire)
Andrea Cavallari (Composer; Director of London Ear and Accademia San Felice)
Andrew Kurowski (Formerly New Music Editor, BBC Radio 3)
The soloist, or ensemble representative, for whom a work has been submitted

Stage 2
Sam Hayden
Andrea Cavallari
Christoph Taggatz (Editor-in-Chief, Verlag Neue Musik, Berlin)
Gwyn Pritchard (Composer; Director of London Ear; Professor of composition Trinity Laban Conservatoire)

Stage 1: The judges will select five pieces: one piece for each of the above ensembles or performers, to be included in their concerts at London Ear 2016. (See also condition 11 below)

Stage 2: After the final concert on March 13th the jury will decide upon and announce the order of.

The performances will be recorded, as the 1st prize winning work will be releases as a download on the Sargasso label (subject to agreement by all parties: composer, performers, Sargasso)
