
Sistema-inspired music education in Europe and beyond – enabling social change through collective music-making

- Introduction: Inspired by the worldwide phenomenon, Fundación Musical Simón Bolívar (El Sistema), new audiences and participants of all ages throughout the world are experiencing classical and contemporary music for the first time; and existing audiences are being re-inspired by the power of music.
The phenomenon that is El Sistema is rapidly spreading across the world has significant impact on social change through excellence in music making. - Main scope of the seminar: This seminar uniquely brings together experts from Europe and North America and draws on knowledge from as far afield as Korea and New Zealand. The issues addressed will include the relationship between Sistema inspired programmes and music education; enabling social change through collective music making; and special educational needs.
This symposium will provide examples of current best practice. Up to date research will be disseminated; new online materials for teachers will be demonstrated; international experts from Europe and Canada will discuss and share how and why Sistema-inspired programmes throughout the world are changing the lives of communities and bringing classical and contemporary music to new audiences.” Substantial time for questions and contributions from all participants and delegates is foreseen. - Target groups: The presentations will be relevant to music teachers, professional musicians, policy makers and funders.
