Die INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF POPULAR MUSIC (IASPM) bittet um Einreichungen von Papers zum Thema „Pop-Musik-Festivals und Kulturpolitik”.
Ranging from jazz, through folk, to country, hip-hop, world music, dance music, rock and classical music, festivals are a vital part of contemporary popular music cultures. This vitality has been reflected by a growth in the field of festival research, which has become an inter- as well as a transdisciplinary area encompassing various perspectives on festivals and popular music culture. Amongst other approaches, previous studies have addressed questions on the complex relations of policies and pop music festivals. Set against this background, this special issue of the IASPM@Journal, the journal of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music, wishes to encourage further critical reflection, research and debate in this field regarding the relational structure of pop music festivals, cultural and governmental policies, cultural/music/event management and cultural mediation.
We are looking for a range of international perspectives from the different localities and cultures that IASPM represents. We are particularly interested in new approaches at the crossroads of topics that can include – but are not limited to:
- Aesthetic, social, economic etc. aspects of the interrelations between pop music festivals and cultural/governmental policies
- Pop music festivals in the area of tension between cultural/music/event management and cultural mediation
- The interrelations between pop music festivals and cultural/governmental policies regarding different stakeholders (musicians, audience, managers, labels, publishers, organizers, local residents, entrepreneurs etc.)
- Aesthetic, social, economic etc. value creation processes generated by pop music festivals
- Implications of failed pop music festivals for cultural/music/event management and cultural/governmental policies
- Development of theoretical approaches to interrelations of pop music festivals, cultural policies, cultural/music/event management and cultural mediation
Authors are encouraged to submit, by 31 August 2018, a 300-word abstract to special issue editors Beate Flath (firstname.lastname@example.org), Martin Cloonan (martin.cloonan@UTU.FI) , and Adam Behr (email@example.com). Abstracts must include an indicative title, a critical engagement with relevant literature, an indication of significance, and references.
Decisions will be communicated to authors by 28 September 2018. The deadline for full submission of articles of up to 8,000 words (including abstract) is 14 January 2019.

IASPM@Journal is the journal of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM), an organization established to promote inquiry, scholarship and analysis in the area of popular music. As part of an international network the journal aims to disseminate IASPM members’ research work that is local, transnational, global and/or international.
English is the official language but articles may also be submitted in the official language of any of its branches (adding an English abstract). Depending on the language used, submissions are expected to be around 8,000 words in length, keeping the Word-document size to 2 MB.
Studies may use a range of research methodologies and critical approaches, including practice as research. As our open access readership is diverse and interdisciplinary, we ask contributors to present ideas in forms accessible to sociologists, musicologists, music critics and practitioners. In order to submit to IASPM@Journal you must be an IASPM member and registered as an author on the site.

Complete also your Bio Statement and include the language(s) and in which you can write or review. Where appropriate, add your reviewing interests as separated key concepts.
