The workshop provides a brief overview of the Austrian music scene, its unique characteristics, its key players, and what matters most if you want to run a successful music business in this country—whether as an artist, a label, or in the fields of management, booking, or publishing.
The workshop will be conducted in English and is divided into three sessions:
In Session 1 (2:15–3:15 p.m.), the basics of Austrian copyright law will be explained, including the work of relevant collecting societies.
In Session 2 (3:30–4:30 p.m.), the work of labels, distributors, and publishers will be examined. In addition, the session will cover how live agents, booking agencies, tour management, and event organizers operate and collaborate with one another.
In Session 3 (4:45–5:45 p.m.), Marie Hummer (Rain/Label) and Flora Strigl (Waves Festival) will present their work in a panel discussion. Following this, there will be an opportunity to talk with the experts.
The workshop is aimed at young professionals in the YPP (Young Professional Program) of this year’s Waves Festival and all musicians interested in the Austrian music business; it will be held in English.
