Open Call: The New Symposium

The New Symposium ist ein fortlaufendes Programm, das sich an Musikschaffende, Musikwissenschaftler:innen, Forschende Pädagog:innen, Produzent:innen und andere Praktiker:innen im Bereich von Musik und anderer Kunstrichtungen richtet. Im Rahmen wöchentlicher Online-Sitzungen bringt es eine vielfältige Gruppe von Teilnehmenden zusammen, um einen kritischen Dialog zu führen, ihre Arbeiten vorzustellen, Methoden und Ideen auszutauschen und die reflektierte Praxis zu fördern. Das Programm gipfelt in persönlichen Treffen, von denen das erste im Rahmen der Bled Contemporary Music Week stattfindet [22.–26. Juni 2026].

The New Symposium is an ongoing program dedicated to music practitioners, theorists, and researchers. Through weekly online sessions, it brings together a diverse group of participants to engage in critical dialogue, present their work, exchange methods and ideas, and foster reflective practice. The program culminates in in-person gatherings, with the first one taking place at Bled Contemporary Music Week [June 22–26, 2026].

FORMAT: Weekly online sessions via Zoom (Saturdays, 90 minutes)
[March – December 2026]

FOR: Composers, performers, musicologists, researchers, pedagogues, producers, and other practitioners engaged in the field of music and art, at any stage of their academic or artistic development. Applications are welcome from both emerging and established practitioners; no specific subfield or specialization is required.

The New Symposium is a weekly online residency program that builds an international community of music practitioners, theorists, and researchers. Meeting every Saturday on Zoom, participants present their work, share research questions, and engage in peer-led discussions that emphasize critical reflection and the practice of critical dialogue. Each session offers an open space for ideas, where diverse perspectives meet and participants are encouraged to question, challenge, and expand their approaches.

The program culminates in an in-person gatherings, the first upcoming meeting will be at Bled Contemporary Music Week (June 19-26, 2026, Bled, Slovenia, EU), where the working group meets on location, continues its research activities, and takes part in the festival concerts, symposia, and lectures.
