Vienna International Music Competition

The Vienna International Music Competition has been conceived of to allow young musicians of all ages to perform in one of the most legendary venues: Musikverein. Music students and young professionals of all nationalities, ages and musical disciplines (piano, strings, wind, voice and chamber music) are invited to apply.

Vienna is universally considered the capital of classical music, and Musikverein is probably the most popular and prestigious classical concert hall, closely connected to the iconic Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, New Year’s Concert as well as musical geniuses like Herbert von Karajan.

Applicants will participate in one of the following age categories: Junior (12 years old and under), Young Artist (13 to 19 years old), Virtuoso (20 to 26 years old) and Professional (no age limit, minimum age: 27 years old). In each category, many Golden and Silver medals will be awarded.

At least 12 musicians will receive a First Grand Award, and will perform at the winners’ concert at Musikverein. They will receive a cash prize, a recording from the concert, professional pictures and free invitations to the concert.

The purpose of the Vienna International Music Competition is to discover young artists of outstanding personality and charisma, and to provide them with the unique opportunity to make a debut at Musikverein: an award that might launch their international careers. Music critics, agents and promoters will be invited to the winners’ concert, which will take place at Musikverein (Glasender Hall) on 9 March 2019.
