Sounds Queer? Festival

SOUNDS QUEER? lädt Frauen, nicht-binäre und nicht-normative Musikbegeisterte dazu ein, queere Sounds zu entdecken. Das von der Musikerin und Kulturwissenschaftlerin ZOSIA HOLUBOWSKA und den Künstlerinnen ADELE KNALL und VIOLETE GIL ins Leben gerufene Festival bündelt Workshops, Jam-Sessions und gemütlichen NetzwerkerInnen-Treff an fünf Tagen in Wien. Ziel ist es, Musiker*innen für elektronische Musikproduktion zu begeistern und ihnen die Berührungsängste mit Hardware und Software zu nehmen. 

Diesen Jänner veranstaltet das Kollektiv Sounds Queer? ein 5-tägiges Festival in Wien, das mit Workshops und Musik-Jams ein vielfältiges Programm verspricht. In den Workshops wird die Arbeit mit Synthesizern und Sequencern erklärt, aber auch Techniken der Musikproduktion, die Funktionsweise von DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) und elektronische Circuit-Buildings. Auch eine kollektive Jam-Session wird es geben.

Willkommen sind alle, die bereit sind, über ihre eigenen Privilegien nachzudenken und einen Schritt zurück zu machen, um den anderen mehr Raum einzuräumen. In den Workshops werden Femmes, Frauen, Afab, nicht-binäre, Trans- und queere Personen priorisiert. Jeder Workshop kostet 5 Euro bzw. 10 Euro für DIY-Elektronik-Schaltungsworkshops (einschließlich Materialien), der vollständige Festivalpass (5 verschiedene Workshops plus Materialien) beträgt 30 Euro.

Der Gewinn soll dabei helfen, ein Labor für queere Sounds und eine „Synthesizer-Bibliothek” in Wien zu eröffnen.

Der Workshop wird auf Englisch geführt.

9.-10. Januar

16:00 Workshop: Einführung in die Elektronik. Baut euren eigenen Synth! I / II mit Adele Knall und Violeta Gil

„In this workshop we will learn the basics about electricity and electronic circuits. While building an Atari Punk Synthesizer, we will exercise our skills soldering electronic components. The second day we will build the cases for the synths. Every participant should bring a case or small box. The workshop fee of 10€ includes all the material to build the Atari Punk Synthesizer. There will be some 8 Step Sequencers Kits available, if someone wants to build it after the Atari Punk Synth (the Sequencers have to be paid separately). After the second day, we invite you to an open nerdy tech jam! Bring out your toys and spaceships and meet fellow queer sound enthusiasts!”

„The workshop offers a perfect introduction to independent music practice. We will start with how to make field recordings and create a wide range of different sounds and textures by only using simple, built in Ableton Plugins. Field recordings is the easiest way to start working with sounds and get amazing effects fairly quickly. Aja Ireland will also talk about her practice as independent artist, covering topics of booking, self management and branding.”

We will look into both hardware gear as well as what MIDI means in context of software, including free and budget options.”

Participants will learn to build ambient/drone/noise textures, experiment and discovering new sounds as a group through live demonstration. The workshop will include unique sample packs created for participants to take away home. We will also show you where to find field recordings on-line to work with.”
