1st Hong Kong International Conducting Competition

Juni 2017. Das Anmeldeformular als Download findet sich unter www.hkconducting.com.

Yip Wing-sie, Co-chair of the jury of the Hong Kong International Conducting Competition and Music Director of Hong Kong Sinfonietta, is pleased to host the Competition in Hong Kong. She recalls her own experience: “Although it has been 32 years since I was at my first competition (Besançon International Conducting Competition), I can still remember each scene vividly. I met a lot of great musicians and conductors of my age and it changed my life. It opened doors for me and started me on my career. I am happy now that there is a competition here in my hometown, which means that young conductors in Hong Kong won’t have to make their ways to Europe or the USA for competitions!”.

Another Co-chair of the jury of the Competition and Principal Conductor of Cologne Chamber Orchestra, Christoph Poppen says, “Participating in this prestigious competition is much more than competing for prizes: the possibility of performing with the marvellous Hong Kong Sinfonietta is already a reward! Meeting other conductors, as well as the outstanding jury members can also be an important step for your future.”

The Competition features a jury panel made up of people shaping the music business today, including conductors, teachers and music administrators such as Jorma Panula (Director of Panula Academy) and Chien Wen-pin (Kapellmeister of Deutsche Oper am Rhein; Executive and Artistic Director designée of National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts, Taiwan); Gaetan Le Divelec (Director of Askonas Holt); Gavin Reid (Chief Executive of Scottish Chamber Orchestra); as well as James Cuddeford (Concertmaster) and Lam Wing-tsan (Principal Tuba) of Hong Kong Sinfonietta. The Competition will be complemented by a conducting workshop hosted by Mr Panula, Ms Yip and Mr Poppen in the following week.

The Competition comprises three rounds, and Hong Kong Sinfonietta will be involved throughout. A maximum of 18 candidates will be selected for Round 1 and the result will be announced in mid-July 2017. Tickets to Rounds 1-3 will be available at all URBTIX outlets and ticketing details will be announced later.
